Hiroshima & Nagasaki Bombings
After German Nazi surrender on may 8th, 1945 and the eventual end of the European campaign of World War II the United States felt determined to bring an end to the pacific theater campaign and force Japan to surrender. The US warned Japan, threatening that if they did not surrender they would bomb Japan and ultimately bring destruction if Japan did not comply. Japan ignored the United States request. The United States had begun manufacturing and testing atomic bombs and by August of 1945, president Harry Truman had made the decision to drop the first ever atomic bomb, “Little Boy" on the civilian and military populations of Hiroshima, Japan. The United States once again warned Japan of an allied bombing, but they gave no response. Three days after Little Boy was dropped Japan had yet to surrender. The United States then dropped the second atomic bomb, Fat Man, on Hiroshima killing 100,000 people and wounding another 90,000. On August 15, 1945 Japan surrendered to the United States, resulting in the conclusion of World War II
