lyrics:
When der Führer says, "Ve ist der master race"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in der Führer's face
Not to love der Führer is a great disgrace
So ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in der Führer's face
When Herr Goebbels says, "Ve own der world und space"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in Herr Goebbel's face
When Herr Goering says, "They'll never bomb this place"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in Herr Goering's face
Ist ve not the supermen Aryan pure supermen Ja, ve ist der supermen Super-duper supermen
Iz this Nutzi land so good
Would you leave it if you could
Ja, this Nutzi land is good
Ve would leave it if we could
Ve bring the world new order
Heil Hitler's world New Order
Everyone of foreign race
will love Der Führer's face
When we bring to der world disorder
When der Führer says, "Ve ist der master race"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in der Führer's face
Not to love der Führer is a great disgrace
So ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in der Führer's face
When der Führer says, "Dis war won't last too long"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry), although he could be wrong
If you doubt der Führer, you won't last for long
So, ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry), still he could be wrong
When Herr Goebbels says, "Ve'll get some meat next week"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry), but we would rather eat
But to doubt Herr Goebbels would be indiscreet
So, ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry), but still we got no meat
Have Nutzi any friends
Many friends, Aryan friends
Ya, Nutzi, we have friends
Ve have many Aryan friends
Mussolini is our friend
Hirohito is our friend
And Navarri is our friend
But ve'll get them in the end
Ve try to take each country
But there is just one Country
It's just twenty miles away
Where those blasted British play
But they won't let us cross their Country
When der Führer says, "Ve ist der master race"
Ve HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in der Führer's face
But some day in Hell, he'll be right in his place
Then ve'll HEIL! (raspberry) HEIL! (raspberry) right in der Führer's face
Analysis:
In the Fuhrer’s Face is pro-war; as shown by its frequent references to Hitler’s oppression of the German people, such as the lyrics, “although he could be wrong if you doubt der Führer, you won't last for long.” This song also makes use of childish language and mockery, such as ‘raspberries’ and referring to Nazis as ‘Nutzis.’ The animation that accompanies the video is also important, as it shows Nazis acting childishly silly, so as to portray the Nazis as mindless and stupid. This song is in support of Collective Security, the stated foreign policy of the United States during the later years of the war. It talks about Hitler’s master race and new world order in such a way as to make them sound threatening, by putting them next to a list of Hitler’s allies, so as to imply a violent means of achieving these goals. I agree with the song’s support of Collective Security and more generally, the United States’ involvement of the war; but ultimately it was a propaganda video. It wasn’t encouraging the US government to enter the war; it was responding to the US entering the war. Its goal, as shown by its use of animation, childish language and the very fact that it was made by Disney-a children’s entertainment company-was to convince children that the US was justified in its entry into the war. In Disney’s defense, there is a considerable amount to be said for any effort to raise awareness during wartime. But this is not by itself an excuse for the blatant bias they display in the song and video, particularly when the target audience is kids. Disney tried to take advantage of children’s impressionability, which leaves me no choice but to disagree with their message overall.
